(Denver) - The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) released a final report today regarding the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine (Mine) in Cripple Creek following a recent inspection of the Mine’s operations.

The inspection of the Mine was a follow up to a Cease and Desist Order issued by DRMS on October 24, 2024, and to determine if the Mine was in compliance with DRMS’s Tourist Mines Rules and Regulations. This inspection related to the condition and safety of the tourist mine, and was not conducted as an investigation into the fatal accident that occurred on October 10, 2024.

The inspection report identified minimal maintenance issues but determined that the Mine is in overall good working order and in compliance with regulations. Consequently, DRMS lifted the Mine’s Cease and Desist Order as of December 9, 2024.

Mine safety at Colorado tourist mines is regulated by the Mine Safety and Training Program within the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Mine safety at active mines is regulated through the Federal Mine Safety & Health Administration.

Overall Colorado tourist mines have an excellent safety record. Each year thousands of tourists safely visit these mines where they learn about the importance of our state’s precious natural resources and the history of mining in Colorado.

A copy of the inspection report can be found on the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety’s website.
