Launched at Colorado Water Congress, the site offers interactive tools, real-time data, and resources to connect people to the past, present, and future of the Colorado River
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Today, at Colorado Water Congress in Steamboat Springs, Gov. Jared Polis announced the launch of ColoradoRiver.com, a new online resource from the Department of Natural Resources designed to help people across the West understand, explore, and engage with the Colorado River — the hardest-working river in the American West.
“I am excited to announce today that we are launching ColoradoRiver.com as the official source for all information on our namesake river,” said Gov. Polis. “Colorado has always been the leader in the basin. This website will serve as an educational hub with maps, snowpack and flow data, and policy discussions, all managed here at the source in Colorado.”
The launch coincides with the Colorado Water Congress summer conference to underscore Colorado’s leadership in river stewardship and collaboration across the Basin. Colorado’s namesake river fuels communities, economies, and recreation in all four corners of our state.
Serving more than 40 million people and 30 Tribal Nations, irrigating over 5 million acres of farmland, and sustaining a $1.4 trillion economy, the Colorado River is essential to life across seven U.S. states and Mexico. ColoradoRiver.com brings together the river’s rich history and current challenges, focusing on a sustainable future where management decisions are shaped by the available water supply rather than demand.
“I’m excited to connect with people across the Basin in ways that help them understand the Colorado River and stay informed on the work to keep it sustainable for generations to come,” said Becky Mitchell, Colorado’s Commissioner to the Upper Colorado River Commission. ColoradoRiver.com is a place to see the full picture of what this resource means to millions across the West — so people can understand the stakes, and why we’re working hard to protect it.”
The site features:
- Interactive maps showing where and how the river’s water is used
- Reservoir and snowpack conditions updated in real time
- Educational content on the river’s history, management, and environmental challenges
- News and event updates from across the Basin
- Links and downloadable resources for deeper exploration
Visitors are encouraged to explore ColoradoRiver.com to learn the facts, understand the challenges, and follow Colorado’s work to secure a sustainable water future. For ongoing updates and engaging river content, follow @CORiverHeadwaters on Instagram.
